How to Prepare / Make / Cook - Butter dal ?


Butter dal

1 cup black gram dal. 2 small onions. Minced. ½ tsp turmeric powder. 3 to 4 green chillies, slitted. ½ inch piece ginger. minced, handful of raisins. 1 tsp. Roasted and ground cumin seeds. Salt and chilli powder to taste 100 grams unsalted white butter.

Soak black gram or urad dal in 4 cups water for a couple of hours. Heat 1 tblsp. Ghee and put in ginger and onion when the mixture turns soft, put in the dal along with the water in which it was soaked and turmeric powder. Cook till the dal is tender and almost dry. Put in fried raisins, salt and chillies and continue cooking till the dal turns quite dry. Stir in ground cumin seeds and remove from fire. Put it in a serving dish. And put butter on top before serving it.
